send in your show reviews to sir_bell_end@hotmail.com but please, cos I get loads of junk mail sent to my address, state in the message title (Re:) that it is a "Show Review!!". Thanks a lot. Febuary 19th as part of MASE. At North Wales Theatre, Llanduddno. ---->A piece of the action is what the crowd wanted & bodies surfed across the sweaty mass to the sound of Terminal CC (another 3-piece) making their debut show, probably 5 or 6 rehearsals too soon. Superb drumming from Nick was let down by lack of co-ordination from his partners in crime (Matthew & Dave), but hope springs eternal in self-penned songs like Hey Hey, Youve Got a Gay Cat, which have neat riffs & something solid to build on. ---> The set started off with a humourus cover of "Eye Of The Tiger" and from then on the set went down hill. Not through the sound but for timing. As an essential part of any band, timing is important and Terminal cc either a) thourght it was "punk" to do this or b) just blatantly forgot. Anyway, aprt from that, a good set for their debut. But they musn't stand around. A good show is an exciting one and not a grunge one like so many bands at mase. Gaz Coleman, Mase fan March 23rd as part of MASE. At North wales Theatre, Llanduddno. ---> Terminal CC played much better than the last one. But no one got up for this one so the atmosphere wasn't as good.it proves that playin' crap gets you a mase crowd, but playin' good gets you none. For their songs from "blood rush" to "huh, you've got a gay cat" to "closing speech" all sounded great. But it was a shame to see the drummer's ego get the better of dave and matt. This was Nick's last gig with TCC so, in my opinion he wanted the band to sound terrible by playing simple beats and at the end of the gig he stole the spotlight by doing some drum solo. what an idiot, he just nlooked like he couldn't play drums. But all in all a great set. They lasted longer than 15 minutes and got rid of a thorn in the side drummer. nice. SteveSka, drunkMONKEY June 18th as part of MASE. North wales theatre, Llanduddno. ---> The evening started off with the three members of TCC quickly sound checking their gear before playing their set where Dave revealed his vest to the audience with the words "I LOVE SHATTER... and I also love to lie" scrawled across with a black marker. The members of Shi... I mean Shatter, stood at the side of the stage giving dirty looks for most of the sound check, where people suggested that trouble was going to start between the two bands, during TCC's set... excellent! It was the band's 3rd gig at the Mase, but their first with new drummer Jamie, since the departure of Nick. Also they were put on before the headlining act... which kicked ass. It was clearly visible that Matt Bassist was starting to panic when his bass wasn't working but the problem was sorted, yet he couldn't hear me or my bandmates shouting "Capdown!!" at the top of their voices. Finally, the band blasted into their first song (I can't remember the order of the songs) which got an instant pit. Unfortunatly this also herded in the townies, which resulted in me and many others getting smacked in the back of the head, oh well. I watched the rest of the gig from the side of the stage, cause I got another twatting. I missed most of the second song, due to me and some other lads pissing ourselves at the sight of a group of townies moshing and having to stop to pull their socks back up over their trousers...HAHAHA! Anyway back to the gig, "Huh, You've Got A Gay Cat" was one of the best performances of the set, and was the best version I've heard so far. You could really tell the difference between the two drummers, both Nick and Jamie are amazing drummers, but Jamie brought a completly different sound to the band with his 'Slipknot-only-milder' drumming, which I thought gave the whole set a new lease of life. It was also during this song where the guitarist from Shatter decided to stage-dive into the crowd, where Dave kept on playing with a really confused face and mouthing "Dickhead!" away from the mic. Mid-set, the band spent a little too much time talking what can only be classed as bollocks, but fair play to 'em Dave was pissed. After numerous "I've got a small dick" jokes from Matt and getting the crowd to start on Ste Ska-Guy, the band went into the Vandal's "My Girlfriend's Dead", which kicked ass. Matt finally loosened up, from the occassional jump into a mad hopping frenzy like a schizophrenic on too much coffee. He walked over to the side of the stage where me and others shouted "CAPDOWN!!" about fifty times but he still didn't hear us (the story of 'THE' Capdown incident is a very long story involving a photo shoot for my band). This review is getting a bit long so I'll say the rest of the set was "Suspicious?", "Closing Speech" and others I really can't remember. Overall, it kicked ass. Oh and Terminal CC... your drummer DOES look like Dave Grohl, I'm telling you! Domo, Die Kast Messiah
August 13th as part of MASE. North wales theatre, Llanduddno. ---->After a underwhelming performance from acoustic indie-types "Fat Bob", it was down to Terminal CC to brighten the otherwise lifeless evening of the mase. The crowd had come to expect the drunken rowdyness of the threesome after the band's previous performance and they were not dissapointed as the bass player, Matthew istantly opened his dirt-filled mouth as soon as the band took stage. The band's first song, Blood Rush, a fast paced opener with a very Less than Jake meets Weezer riff to it sounded sharp and got the crowd going. However, the crowd appeared somewhat lackluster, as they were for the whole duration of the night. The band however, couldnt care less and continued to bash out their punk flavoured nuttiness, with songs such as Suspicious, Booze, Just know this and a rather interesting cover of the shite R. Kelly track I believe i cant fart, or whatever its called. I must admit though the Terminal CC version is far more metal than the original. After a rendition of Hash Pipe, the Weezer smash hit, the band decided to hurl abuse at the crowd and the sound dude, claiming the audience were all gay and that the sound dude, was a tosser. The band then played, my personal favourite Closing Speech, a more sentimental and experimental song (by experimental i mean more than 2 chords), but while doing this they did not loose any of their punk credability as it is such a strong song. The band ended with a rather interesting cover, of the Billy Bragg track (!), To have and to have not. The song was definately the greatest song the group have played and their fluency and understanding of the song showed as they belted through it incredibly and then calmly walked off stage. Only one thing remains to be asked dave, where was your bloody keg? you bastard. KERRPLUNK RATING: J Leanne Borrett, Die Kast Messiah
---->I caught the latter end of Terminal CC who have taken great strides forward since I last saw them & have learnt to play in time (almost). The aforementioned Nic has been replaced with another pretty decent drummer & this 3-piece remind me of a mid-west-American trash band like The Grifters or Wing Tipped Sloat. Those bands actually deliberately play miss timed miss chords whereas Terminal CC do so the extent of their ability. Perhaps too much practise would change all that for better or worse, they do have a carefree & boisterous on stage confidence which is a good sign. Neil Crud, www.link2wales.co.uk November the 2nd at Catz in Rhyl. no review November 12th, Mase, North Wales Theatre, Llandudno. ----->In typical Crud fashion, the band I most wanted to see Floaters Revenge were hammering into their final song of disorganised punk rock mohicaned chaos. Formerly Terminal CC I thought I would at least get a pic of those spiky topped haircuts, but in typical Crud fashion again the camera battery was flat. Its the 21st century for Cruds sake! And were still using batteries in poxy bloody cameras. Neil Crud, www.link2wales.co.uk December 7th, at The New Inn in rhyl. ----->Fresh from a porn fest in Amsterdam, Andy Fatman described Floaters Revenge as bad punk rock. He was probably right, but what is good punk rock? The clean cut Green Day playing sanitised chord progressions with millions of kids dollars in the bank or the dirty stench driven Floaters Revenge? Not 2 tosses were given tonight as they opened up, nothing to prove, just get pissed & make a noise, if the words fit & its in time, then all the better. They do look the part, 2 mohicaned guitarist/vocalists flanking a Bob Mould lookalike bassist, who wont look you in the eye but has the potential to wrap his bass around your head if you upset him. And the multi-talented Jamie Cardno whose snare drum was taking such a beating that it was begging for forgiveness by the end of the half hour set. Neil Crud, www.link2wales.co.uk
January 3rd at Penrhyn Old Hall, Penrhyn Bay. no review January 7th as part of mase. North wales theatre, llandudno. no review January 11th at the New Inn in rhyl. "The New Inn" Rhyl is now becoming a regular place for local bands to play and some how the floaters revenge always seem to support which cant be bad for them. Anyway the evening got off to a worrying start when me and a mate showed up about half an hour early but expecting the band to be soundchecking or something similar, but to our suprise we met a very worried floaters revenge looking quite nervous about the fact that none of the other bands had showed up yet and there was no equipment, any way all was well as dive soon showed up,(better late than never) any way people started showing up and it soon became packed full of people. the floaters revenge went on first, and in all fairness played quite a good set unusually starting with the very scary "Just know this" which gets everyone going and ready for the next song "Headfucked" which in my opinion is probably one of their best songs, they played their usual cover of the most excellent Ramones song "Blitzkrieg bop" and it was a good set, but for some reason the band didn't seem to think so as everytime i tried to congratulate them they looked like they wanted to twat me one (maybe it was just me) anyway i enjoyed it even if they didn't. Febuary 9th at Penrhyn Old Hall, Penrhyn Bay. ...That seemed to work but getting fresh bands on, like the more punk-inclined amongst the MASE collective, will be important to keep interest up. Floaters Revenge are one such, but struggled with heavy feedback vibe until someone figured out the PA speakers should be shifted a bit forward (getting used to a new venue after all) allowing their pretty rough punk to come through. Their own songs struck better than the covers, mainly down to being more interesting & fitting their sound better. MJW, www.link2wales.co.uk
